I totally agree with you. Even though I have found that young people that I have worked with are happy to reach out to others once they are armed with a little knowledge, we adults are much more timid about connecting with people. I was hoping the project had enough appeal to overcome that. It's a great learning experience about the real and perceived boundaries that exist in a place like New York City! Maybe I can work on a project that really explores that aspect...

Hi Eve. I wonder if individuals didn't step forward in expected numbers because of the neighborhood outreach element. I was very interested in participating earlier in the year when I lived in Bed-Stuy, but unfortunately I didn't know the neighbors and could not imagine myself approaching them about the project. This would be a great way to connect people and get them involved in working together if only we were not already so isolated and alienated from each other!

Eve, this is a great idea for a course. When I was in school, I took a course that touched upon some of these topics related to interventionist art (the entire class put on an guerillas-style exhibition in an NYC subway station, complete with MetroCards as invitations). I also was a teaching assistant for a related class by the same professor.

You might be interested in the current exhibition at Art in General titled Actions for Urban Spaces. (Full disclosure: I'm in the show.) http://www.artingeneral.org/projects/471

Thanks for the comment Molly. I continue to stay interested and excited about the "transition." Even thought I haven't agreed with a lot of the appointments I really appreciate Obama's decision to talk about his decisions and why he is choosing them. I also look forward to more of the fireside youtube chats. We are witnessing a huge cultural shift.

Thanks for sharing the Obama post-election set. I glanced at it a week or two ago but tonight I set it on play and just soaked in the whole thing.
What an exciting time. (I am getting choked up.) It feels so incredibly good to feel this positive about my country and our soon-to-be president. I am so happy to be alive to witness this.
Peace.

I like the first one. More concise and less artspeak. Sounds like a really interesting project!

Ha ha! Good point! Okay, can anyone, anywhere near, on, behind, in front of or across the fence tell me what the compulsion is all about?

What makes you so certain that it is people on the other side of the art fence doing the "snow globing"?
